Sheffield school create spectacular sculpture

Have your say

Boys from a Sheffield school have had a tree-mendous time creating sculptures from willow for the Garden Up festival, to be held in the Botanical Gardens next weekend.

Pupils from Birkdale Prep School have been working with local ceramic artist Anna-Mercedes Wear on the project - creating two Victorian ladies, a dog and a goose. The sculptures have been made from scratch by bending and weaving willow, and covering the shapes with paper and glue to create a hard, solid surface which can then be decorated.

Teacher Vicky Frewin said: “The boys have had a fantastic time making the sculptures.”
