FOUR young performers from Sheffield will be appearing in musicals across the country after winning places in a top theatre company.

The quartet are joining the Youth Music Theatre and will now get the chance to work with some of the UK’s leading directors, composers and choreographers during the August shows.

Antonia Gallagher, aged 16, from Greenhill, will be in Project Cuba, in Plymouth. The musical is based on the true story of Fidel Castro’s daughter Cuchita, who formed an all-girl band in the 1930s.

Meanwhile, Billy Joe Rowan, 17, of Manor Park, and 16-year-old Jordan Maycock, from Gleadless, are performing in Nikki and the Gang, a mystery play about a girl who learns to rely on friends and books rather than the internet, in Aberdeen.

And Louise Webster, 16, from Abbeydale, is appearing in a musical version of Macbeth at the Wilde Theatre in Bracknell, Berkshire.

More than 1,000 young people auditioned for places nationwide, and Sheffield auditions were held in January at the Lyceum Theatre in the city centre.

The summer productions are part-funded by donations, trusts, foundations and grants.

Members also hold events to raise money, such as cabaret nights.
