A host of community groups across Sheffield have been shortlisted for a share of £81,000 from a building society.
Skipton Building Society’s ‘Grassroots Giving Campaign’ has attracted a record number of applications from community groups all across the UK this year.
Six from Sheffield are among 304 shortlisted for the cash.
The groups now need members of the public to vote for them to be one of 162 organisations chosen to receive a £500 donation.
The local groups include Steel City Wanderers, Rivelin Valley Conservation Group, University of Sheffield Athletics and Cross Country Club, Woodseats Allotment Society, Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks and Broomhill Community Library Garden Group.
Each group has an online profile, via Skipton’s Grassroots Giving Campaign website, with further information detailing how the cash would benefit their work.
David Cutter, Chief Executive of Skipton Building Society, said: “These local groups are hugely resourceful and are providing valued contributions to their communities and neighbourhoods - we’ve shortlisted the groups who we feel will make the most of the support we can offer them to further build their impact in the coming years and we’re looking forward to the public getting behind this to choose the projects they’d like us to support.
“From last year’s activity we have already had a number of groups get in touch to tell us how much they valued our support - the money enabled them to evolve their groups, and in many ways has helped to secure the future of their group.”
Votes can be cast at www.skiptongrg.co.uk before October 12.
