A NEW season of films and talks organised by Sheffield University and the Showroom Cinema is to explore philosophical issues raised in the cinema.
Every month until November, Film and Philosophy will show intriguing masterpieces of cinema that raise important questions and encourage the public to debate the issues featured – from trust, doubt and memory to understanding war and capital punishment.
Each film will be preceded by a short introduction, and followed by a discussion, led by an expert academic.
A highlight of the season will feature a talk by distinguished Professor Robert Pippin from the University of Chicago, who will explore The Thin Red Line.
The screening will take place on May 30 and the talk two weeks later, on June 14, at the university’s Humanities Research Institute. The season will feature films rarely seen on the big screen.
