A NEW play about the Sheffield Blitz is to take to the stage in August, after winning funding through the website Kickstarter - where people can pledge money to projects they’d like to see happen.
Operation Crucible, written by Kieran Knowles and produced by Curran McKay, already has a cast, but needed funding to hire rehearsal space, buy materials for the set and pay for a venue.
Based on a true story, the plot centres on four men trapped in a cellar in The Marples Hotel in Fitzalan Square after city centre bombing during the Blitz in 1940.
The group have raised £8,107 to stage the play - more than their £7,000 target - by using ‘crowd sourcing’ website Kickstarter.
The play will now be shown in Sheffield first, and the plan is it will then go on tour, in London and the rest of the country, later this year.
