Rebuilding of city school to win backing

CITY planners have backed plans to redevelop a large secondary school in Sheffield.

The refurbishment of Notre Dame School in Fulwood Road, Ranmoor, is expected to get planning permission when councillors meet on Tuesday.

The scheme, which includes new buildings and refurbishing existing structures, has won the backing of planning officers, who say it will improve facilities and won't harm the conservation area.

Approval would be subject to traffic calming and waiting restrictions on Riverdale Road, Graham Road and Ranmoor Park Road.

If the scheme wins planning permission it must still gain funding approval from the Building Schools for the Future programme which has been slashed, with several projects abandoned in Rotherham and Doncaster.

Council bosses believe Sheffield schools in the pipeline for redevelopment are too far advanced to have their plans scrapped.
