The Rock takes a break from its traditional summer holiday this year to bring this American blues player and singer-songwriter. The organisers decided it was just too good an opportunity to miss.
Mississippi-born Lisa’s influences range from Etta James to Brenda Lee and it wasn’t long before she had begun composing her own songs from an early age.
A friend who recognised Lisa’s potential sent Sam Andrew of Big Brother and the Holding Company a copy of Blues and Ballads, her first CD. That landed Lisa her first international gig, in Germany.
The European connection led her to meet Robert Plant’s sound engineer Roy Williams, who encouraged her to launch her solo career. Along the way she has played with Delbert McClinton, Dr.John, Junior Wells and appears on a compilation CD, Live at the Talbot, with Albert Lee.
She toured the UK in 2010 after the release of her CD Tempered in Fire and has appeared at Glastonbury and other major festivals.
Joining Lisa on stage at The Rock is her long-time performing partner and co-producer Ian Jennings on double bass.
Support is from Roy Machin and Mick Miller.
Tickets are £8 in advance and £10 on the door. Box office: 01709 811118 or www.therockmaltby.co.uk
