Memories of Sheffield will be showcased at an event designed to celebrate the first year of a successful local history project.

Sheffield University’s Witness initiative has seen students interview people looking back at two different periods – World War II and the 1980s.

More than 40 in-depth interviews have been carried out – and now the project is to move onto a new phase.

The get together – on Friday, October 4, from 4.30pm, in the Jessop West foyer, near Brook Hill – will be for interviewees, students and members of the public.

Dr Charles West said: “We’re looking forward to starting a new cycle of gathering stories following last year’s success.

“Witness should prove to be a useful tool for historians and researchers.”
