...AND if that’s next weekend sorted, here’s a suggestion for this coming weekend – go plant pot potty at a Sheffield garden centre.
Bosses at Rhinegold, in Loxley, are giving away more than 1,500 surplus pots, trays and containers for everything from seedlings to shrubs and small trees.
Green-fingered bargain-hunters are encouraged to go along and fill their metaphorical wheelbarrows.
“In this business you’re continually potting and growing plants, and over a season we accumulate a huge number of surplus pots which we feel should be recycled,” says owner Pat Brears. “These are pots which because we’ve used them once we wouldn’t want to sell but which we think, in the current economic climate, people will appreciate as a freebie.
“Visitors can take as many as they want – they don’t even need to buy anything – although obviously we wouldn’t want anyone loading up hundreds and leaving others disappointed.”
It is the first such initiative in the West Lane centre’s 40 history. Staff will spend the day offering tips while Sheffield Wildlife Trust will also be on hand.
The bargains begin on Saturday at 10am and run while stocks last.
