MASTER chef Geoff Tookey will give cookery demonstrations using locally sourced fresh food as a Making Markets Matter roadshow comes to Barnsley on Saturday, August 18.

Shoppers can watch as Geoff and wife Christine prepare potato and cauliflower curry, spicy chicken with couscous and strawberry pastry stacks, hourly from 11am in front of the markets entrance in Cheapside.

Making Markets Matters is a national initiative highlighting the role of markets in creating a vibrant economy.

Creative crafts

PAINTINGS, pencil drawings and jewellery will be available to buy in two summer sales in Barnsley. The first is at the Cooper Gallery in Church Street this Saturday, August 11, between 10am and 3pm. The second is at Cannon Hall Museum, Cawthorne, on Saturday, September 1, between 11am and 4pm.

Citizens’ summer

A SUMMER of activities for 16 to 25-year-olds culminates in a celebration for 500 guests at Sheffield Cathedral on August 30 from 6pm. Young people have been taking part in the Government-led National Citizen Service with activities including mosaic-building in the Winter Garden.
