A POPULAR community festival which had to be axed due to rain in July has been rearranged with a new date this autumn.

Sharrow Festival was due to take place on July 7, but the date was a washout and the event had to be called off for the first time in its 15-year history.

But Alan Deadman, chairman of the Sharrow Festival organising committee, has revealed a replacement date of Saturday, October 6.

He said: “We were very sad we had to cancel. After working all year to organise the festival, filling in funding applications, shaking tins at Bramall Lane, and looking for sponsors, it was a huge blow.

“However, after we had licked our wounds, the Dunkirk spirit kicked in and we decided to go for Sharrow Festival 2012 mark two, crossing our fingers the weather will be kind second time around.”

The new festival date has been chosen to avoid clashing with a Sheffield United home match. Events will run from noon to 5pm.

There will be live entertainment, stalls, crafts, sports and food. The festival will be followed by live bands at The Vine Inn, Cemetery Road.
