Musicians in tune for awards

Have your say

FORTY young members of a Sheffield marching band are preparing to receive awards – after mounting up credits for the Children’s University.

The youngsters play with the Concord AllStars, who are based on Garden Street in the city centre.

The university is a national organisation which rewards children for taking part in recognised out of school activities.

Every time they go to play with the AllStars they receive credits towards awards, usually presented by the Lord Mayor at the Town Hall.

The band gives eight to 13-year-olds a chance to play brass and percussion instruments and to perform as an ensemble to very high standards.

There are also dance lessons for members of the colour guard and anyone can attend on Saturdays after paying a nominal weekly subscription. The band is currently looking for would-be baritone, euphonium or tuba players.
