More visitors to art gallery

VISITOR figures for a Sheffield art gallery have shown an increase on numbers last summer - despite a reduction in opening hours.

Cutbacks at Museum Sheffield’s Graves Gallery have failed to deter members of the public from flocking to its exhibits, which staff have put down to the popularity of Andy Warhol: Late Self Portraits. The gallery is also reaping the benefits of its latest addition, a Damien Hirst on loan from Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.

A spokesman for Museums Sheffield said: “The reduction in opening hours at the Graves Gallery has obviously impacted on our visitor figures, but in the past few weeks we’ve seen visitor numbers almost double compared with the same period last year.”
