Sheffield’s River Don will be alive with activity this weekend as Kelham Island Museum hosts its Down by the Riverside event.
The free day, on Saturday between 10am and 4pm, has been organised by the museum and Upper Don Walk Trust. Organisers say it will bring to life the riverside walk in Sheffield – an accessible trail from Lady’s Bridge at Kelham Island to Beeley Wood, Oughtibridge.
There will be information stalls about many other local organisations and groups, family entertainment including animals from Mill House Animal Sanctuary, and Sheffield folk band The Black Hares performing throughout the afternoon.
Families can join in kayaking on the Kelham Island goit with Sheffield City Kayak Club, and cyclists can find out more from the Cycle Sheffield group, who will also have an information stall at the event.
Other Kelham Island Museum attractions will be open including the Crucible Shop gallery, the Melting Shop children’s play area and the River Don engine running at intervals throughout the day. Visitors can join free guided walks of the local area too, with Alison Duce, head of Museum Services.
