A new operator has been selected to run a Sheffield sports centre which was at risk of closure.
Places for People Leisure is the ‘preferred bidder’ to operate Wisewood Sports Centre.
It is the second such contract Places for People has won in Sheffield this year - in January it was picked to operate the new facilities at Graves Tennis and Leisure Centre and at Thorncliffe in High Green.
The decision represents the continuation of a shift in the relationship between the city council and Sheffield International Venues. The SIV group expressed disappointment when it first learned Graves and Thorncliffe were going out to tender.
In 2014 the council took over the reins temporarily at Wisewood when Forge Valley School converted to academy status. The facility will be handed to Places for People in April 2016.
