Jazzing it up at golden gig

Have your say

One of the longest running jazz bands in the country, the Rotherham-based Dave Brennan’s Jazzband, will celebrate 50 years of playing at a special event in its home town this month.

Many former members will play once again with the band at Rotherham Rugby Club on May 21, starting at 8pm.

Drummer Terry Kennedy who, like Dave, comes from Wickersley is the only member to have played continuously.

He joined the band as a 14-year-old in the late 1950s.

From the mid 1970s to 1989 now-retired steelworker Dave was the jazz presenter at BBC Radio Sheffield hosting his own programme, Now You Has Jazz.

The band’s current residency is on Wednesday nights at the Three Horse Shoes at Wickersley where it has played since 1993.
