A SHEFFIELD sculptor is creating a 10ft high statue of one of the world's most famous physicists.
The bronze sculpture will show Professor Stephen Hawking sitting in his wheelchair.
It is due to be erected near his office in Cambridge University Centre for Theoretical Cosmology.
The sculpture - which has been commissioned by Prof Hawking's colleagues at a cost of around 250,000 - is being created by artist Eve Shepherd.
Eve, aged 32, from Sheffield, who lives in Brighton, East Sussex, has shadowed Prof Hawking in an attempt to learn more about his personality.
She said she hoped the sculpture would show the "power of Professor Hawking's mind and the fragility of his body".
Eve has created a scale model of the sculpture and is unsure when the full-size statue will be finished.
