Gearing up for some right royal celebrations in Sheffield

FROM fancy dress to fairy cakes, Sheffield is gearing up to have parties fit for a Queen.

With the main Diamond Jubilee celebrations just days away, dozens of events have already been held. Many more will take place over the long Bank Holiday weekend.

Upper Wincobank Chapel hosted a Jubilee celebration with maypole dancing by children from Wincobank youth group and Concord Junior school.

Penny Rea, from the chapel committee, said: “It was a fantastic afternoon, everyone had a wonderful time.

“There were lots of activities for adults and children and we raised over £350 for charity.”

Preparations are now underway for celebrations this weekend, with more than 100 street parties taking place around Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham amnd Doncaster.

Three bashes have already taken place on Banner Cross Road, Mundella Place, Graves Park and on Everton Road, Hunters Bar. In total, 53 more are being held in Sheffield between now and next Tuesday.

And between 10pm and 10.30pm on Monday, six jubilee beacons will be lit in Sheffield - at Chapeltown Park, Mayfield Valley, Bradway Recreation Ground, Manor Fields, Fox Lane Playing Fields, and the Bolehills, Crookes.

Sunday: Blair Athol Road, Bents Drive, Broad Inge Crescent, Carson Mount, Canterbury Crescent, Cotswold Road, Dobcroft Road, Dovedale Road, Linscott Road, Lindholme Gardens, Low Road, Mitchell Road, Norton Park Road, Springvale Road, School Lane, Greenhill, Standish Lane, Totley Hall Mead, and Wilkinson Street.

Monday: Beauchief Rise, Brook Row, Chorley Avenue, Glencoe Road, Holland Place, Jaunty Avenue, Peterborough Drive, Rex Avenue, Savage Lane, Stafford Road and York Road, plus the shopping area at Manchester Road, Stocksbridge.

Tuesday: Ashurst Road, Brocklehurst Avenue, Brier Close, Boyce Street, Bramwith Road, Carsick View Road, Dudley Road, Fox Hill Drive, Heather Lee Avenue, Marsh House Road, Stone Gravels Road, St Anthony Road, Winchester Crescent and West Crescent.
