FRIENDS and colleagues of a former firefighter who died aged 55 will travel to his funeral on a fire appliance.

Andrew Hutt died at home in Alport Place in Birley, Sheffield, on Boxing Day after losing his battle against cancer. His body was discovered by his friend Steve Cooper.

Andrew was a member of Blue Watch at Rotherham Central Fire station for more than 20 years.

He took early retirement when he was diagnosed with cancer. A funeral service will take place tomorrow at City Road Crematorium at 10.15am.

Andrew leaves a daughter Emma.

Steve told The Star Andrew's former colleagues thought hiring the fire engine would be a fitting tribute to their friend.

Steve said: "Most weekends Andrew liked to drink in one of his favourite pubs The Shakespeare in Heeley, where he had a large number of friends.

"He was a very strong person throughout his life and even in illness he never let anything trouble him.

"He enjoyed life to the maximum.

"His friends will miss him very much."
