DORE Gilbert and Sullivan Society know they have a loyal following, but even they didn’t anticipate a fan base that extends Down Under.
Nevertheless, when the society take to the stage with their revival of political satire Iolanthe from April 10 to 13, Australian Jayne Davis will be in the opening night audience. And she’s such an enthusiast she’ll also spend the week carrying out front-of-house duties.
Jayne is a friend of Dore regular Ian Stewart, a Sheffield Hallam University student administrator who stars as the Lord Chancellor in this year’s show at the city’s Montgomery Theatre.
Jayne left Britain for Australia on a £10 ticket back in the 1950s, giving up a nursing career for a new life in TV, working for a time with Rod Hull.
