A TREASURE hunt with a twist will be taking place in Barnsley this weekend - instead of maps, explorers will be using GPS devices to find the hidden haul.
Not-for-profit sports provider Team Activ has organised two days of geocaching at Wentworth Castle, Stainborough, Barnsley.
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices including mobile phones or sat navs.
Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS co-ordinates and then attempt to find hidden loot.
Darren Padgett, Team Activ’s founder, said: “It’s a modern twist on the traditional treasure hunt. It’s great fun for children but it also allows teenagers to combine fitness with their love of mobile phones and technology.”
The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm each day.
