Estate set for second clean

AN ARMY of eco-warriors will add the finishing touches to an award-winning community clean-up.

Voluntary Action Barnsley has organised a litter-picking event at the Cloughfields Estate, Hoyland, following a successful event in May. The first stage of the clean-up saw residents, councillors and Springwood School pupils roll up their sleeves to give the area a much-needed makeover.

Their efforts were given third prize in a nationwide Clean for the Queen campaign.

Now, with the estate needing a few final tweaks, another clean-up has been scheduled for Thursday, with councillors Chris Lamb and Emma Dures, neighbourhoods and engagement services from Barnsley Council.

Beryl Cooper, volunteer centre manager at Voluntary Action Barnsley, said: “We are really pleased to be involved and to have helped organise the day.”
