MUSIC lovers can enjoy the sweet sound of jazz at a new club.
Award-winning saxophonist Tony Kofi will headline at Chesterfield Jazz’s premiere night later this month.
The club has been set up by enthusiasts Pat Sprakes and Wendy Kirkland, who hope to draw other guest stars and make the night a regular fixture on the town’s social calendar.
Pianist Wendy said: “There’s a very thriving folk scene in the area but there isn’t anything for jazz.
“We used to play at a couple of places in Chesterfield a few years ago but all that has dried up.
“We know that people in the area like jazz. Every time I’ve sent out a mailing people would ask when we were next playing locally and I had to say that we weren’t.”
Chesterfield Jazz opens its doors at 7.45pm on Thursday May 24, with the first performance at 8.30pm.
Advance tickets are £7.50.
