Doncaster A-level student Katie Wormald was one of speakers at the first Girlguiding Explores Feminism event in London, along with Girlguiding chief executive Julie Bentley and Jane Martinson, women’s editor of The Guradian.

Katie, 17, was chosen to attend the event as a member of the Girlguiding Advocate! panel, a group of women between 14 and 25 appointed to give girls a voice on the issues they care about.

She said: “I have always believed in equality and I had a strong belief against sexism and stereotyping, but only recently have I been strongly interested in feminism.

“I see the future of guiding and feminism as being closely linked. The girl-only space that Girlguiding offers is a feminist act in itself because it is making sure that girls and young women are being offered opportunities.”
