Hip hop dancers livened up the scene for shoppers in Doncaster’s Frenchgate Centre this afternoon.

Dancers from Breakin’ Convention, the festival of hip hop dance theatre appearing at Cast on Saturday, May 10, gave an impromptu preview show outside the Debenhams store.

Hip hop dance groups Rationale and Street Beatz performed a range of dance styles from hip hop to street for about two hours.

DJs, dancers, demonstrations and workshops will also take over Cast in the ultimate celebration of hip hop culture, with free on the day activities from 12 noon to 3pm in Sir Nigel Gresley Square outside Cast – and a pre show event in Cast from 6pm.

Now in its 11th year, the hugely popular Sadler’s Wells Production, which opens in London next weekend prior to its Doncaster date, is hosted by eminent UK hip hop theatre artist Jonzi D.

The 2014 line-up includes Olivier Award-nominated ILL-Abilities, also featuring is Ukweli Roach who presents an ensemble performance about temptation and vice and France’s Wanted Posse, who have won many of the world’s most high profile hip hop dance battles for over a decade.

South Yorkshire companies being featured include Limited Edition, Rhythmic Jokers, Street Beat Elite, URBAN Conceptz Theatre and Urban Jokers.
