Dancer sets sights on world title

A STUDENT from South Yorkshire is swapping fashion for another of her favourite passions by taking part in the World Irish Dancing Championships.

Francesca Hancox, aged 18, from Higham, Barnsley, will be travelling to Dublin in April to compete against dancers from across the globe.

Francesca, a fashion student at Barnsley College, finished in the top six in the regional heat.

She has been dancing since she was six years old and won her first competition aged nine.

"I just love dancing," she said.

"I practise three to four times per week in Doncaster for up to three hours each time."

Francesca also said she is "really enjoying" her fashion course, despite having to juggle it with her dance commitments.

"I especially enjoy the sewing as I would like to design and make my own costumes," she added.
