Community cinema to be launched in Sheffield suburb

A community cinema is to be set up in a Sheffield library.

The cinema in Totley Library is to be paid for with a £6,000 grant from the Postcode Community Trust - a charity funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

A daytime film club aimed at older residents and more isolated people will be run, with the suburb having a high proportion of older residents with 25 per cent over the age of 65 - higher than anywhere else in the city.

Isabel Hemmings, Chairman of Totley Community Resource and Information Centre, said: “We are very pleased to have received this funding boost thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

“When we took over the management of Totley Library in September 2014 from Sheffield City Council our vision was to expand the role of the library as a community centre. So this new Community Cinema, along with the groups that meet at the library and our events programme, helps establish the library as a community hub.”
