Brass band hit the right note with CD

A SOUTH Yorkshire brass band have branched out into recorded music by releasing their own CD of traditional tunes.

Thurcroft Welfare Brass Band, based in the former mining village, have made an album titled Best of British, featuring songs and music from across the UK.

Songs performed on the CD include The Standard of St George, Londonderry Air, My Love is Like a Red Red Rose and Men of Harlech.

The new record is the band’s second and follows their album 100 Not Out, which commemorating the centenary of Thurcroft Pit.

Cornet player Sheila Hancocks said the band currently has some vacancies.

They rehearse Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on West Street, Thurcroft, and newcomers can practise on Saturdays at 9.30am.
