POP heartthrob Louis Tomlinson found himself mobbed by fans again as he and his boyband One Direction released their first single.

A legion of young fans turned up outside a BBC studio as the former Hall Cross School pupil and his fellow singers Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik turned out to attend the first broadcast of their single.

The girls gathered at the venue even though Louis, whose family is from Bessacarr, had tweeted his fans asking them to stay away for their own safety because of the riots which have been blighting the capital this week.

But after the track, called What Makes You Beautiful, was finally heard, he said he was delighted to have the song out.

He said to fans on Twitter afterwards: “So, so excited for everyone to hear the single - you’ve all been so patient. We love you!”

Although One Direction did not win the X Factor, they were still handed a contract, reported to be worth £2 million, by Simon Cowell’s Syco label.

The song has already helped the group make it into the iTunes chart as a pre-order only track, reaching number two on that basis.

The song has been written by Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub, the pair behind Britney Spears’ first number one, Baby One More Time.

The One Direction single is due to be released on September 11, with an album expected to follow in the autumn.

Meanwhile, Louis is reported to have split from his Doncaster sweetheart Hannah Walker.

One tabloid newspaper quoted a source close the band as saying: “Louis felt restricted, trying to juggle his relationship with being in the band.

“The boys are really busy recording their debut album and it became harder and harder for Louis and Hannah to see each other.

“He tried to make it work but after the band release their first single he wants to be 100 per cent focused on that.”
