Playwright, author and critic Bonnie Greer today headed back to the classroom for a special event designed to inspire Derbyshire pupils.

Ms Greer, a regular on BBC Question Time and Newsnight Review, was visiting Mount St Mary’s College on the outskirts of Sheffield to offer sixth formers an insight into her life and career.

She is the author of Hanging by Her Teeth, Entropy and Obama Music and writes for the Guardian and New Statesman.

Ms Greer has also written a play called Yes for the Royal Opera House about her experience on Question Time alongside British National Party leader Nick Griffin.

Assistant head Toby Leadbetter said: “Bonnie Greer has had a fascinating life and career across the worlds of television, literature and theatre, which, I am sure, will act as an inspiration to our pupils.

“We are privileged and are grateful to her for taking the time out to visit the school.”

Ms Greer’s visit forms part of the school’s teaching and learning programme, which also features historian Dr David Starkey, ex-boxer Johnny Nelson and former Cabinet Secretary Lord Butler of Brockwell.
