Biggest ever Blue John stone sale

Have your say

What is believed to be Britain’s largest auction of objects made from Blue John stone takes place next week.

The collection of over 250 items made from the mineral, mined in Castleton, features a wide range of objects from small bowls to large neo-classical vases, cups and trinkets estimated at between £30 and £30,000.

A highlight of the sale is a late 18th century ormolu-mounted Blue John urn, which is attributed to Matthew Boulton. The auction is at Fellows in Birmingham on Monday.
