Arts group’s funding woe

A CASH crisis is facing an arts organisation for disabled people in South Yorkshire after it lost an Arts Council grant.

Action Space Mobile, based in Mapplewell and Staincross, Barnsley, used to get £23,000 a year - funding the bulk of its work.

The organisation was set up in 1984.

Artistic director Mary Turner said: “It is a serious situation, we are losing our core funding. We will have to look for other funding to continue this work and hope to be able to find the funding to carry on”.

The group runs two theatre companies in Sheffield and Barnsley for adults with disabilities. It also runs workshops for young disabled people, and works with schools and community groups on arts projects involving about 250 people each year.
