A SPECIAL flowerbed designed by a schoolgirl has been planted in Queen’s Park in Chesterfield to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.
The flowerbed was drawn up by nine-year-old Grace Doherty from Hasland Junior School, who won a competition run by Chesterfield Council.
More than 350 entries were received but Grace’s contemporary design of the Union Jack impressed the judges above all the others.
Coun Chris Ludlow, executive member for the environment, said: “Grace has done a brilliant design for our Jubilee bed and hopefully as we get more sunshine over the coming weeks the bed will come into full bloom and people can really admire her work.”
Andy Moreton, from Drainage 2000 Ltd who sponsored the competition, said: “Grace has done a fantastic job.”
Grace also received a £200 cash prize.
