VISITORS to an annual outdoor activities event in Sheffield will be able to enjoy even more attractions this year at an extra mini-festival within the main site.

The Cliffhanger festival is taking place in Graves Park over three days in July - and, for the first time, live music, a real ale tent and a camping village will be on offer in a special enclosure.

The ‘festival within a festival’, called Rat Race Basecamp, will also host sports such as biking and running, including a 5k race around the park.

It will be run by adventure sports company Rat Race, taking place at the same time as the main event.

The 5k run around Graves Park is happening on Saturday, July 7, while cyclists can ride 50km into the Peak District the next day.

Live bands taking to the stage include The Ratells, The Northern Generals, Fossil Collective and Let’s Buy Happiness.

Jim Mee, from Rat Race, said the entertainment will allow Cliffhanger festivalgoers to ‘let their hair down’.

He said: “Graves Park is a beautiful spot to spend the evening and if you elect to camp under the stars you’ll be rewarded with broad views out into the Peaks.

“Sheffield is a city that prides itself on both its music and its adventure sports credentials.

“As well as producing some of the UK’s best bands, it has also produced our best climbers, plus a raft of stellar athletes.”

Festival co-organiser Matt Heason, from Cliffhanger’s operator Heason Events, said: “It’s our aim at Cliffhanger to inspire people of all ages with a love of the outdoors and adventure sports by giving them a taste of a whole host of different sports and activities in one place.

“Cliffhanger’s renowned for being family-friendly event so it’s brilliant that Rat Race Basecamp will make this summer’s weekend even more accessible.”

Music tickets cost £10 for the Friday and £15 for the Saturday. The run and bike ride are priced £15 each. Camping is £6 per night, per person.
