Now Birthday girl Ivy says she is planning to live another 100 years...

THERE was no shortage of birthday wishes when Ivy Smith celebrated her 100th birthday in Sheffield.

Staff from Sheffield Homes and Decent Homes contractors Kier visited Ivy’s Westfield home to hand over a card, flowers and chocolates to mark her milestone.

City-born Ivy, who was widowed in 1980, enjoyed the celebrations organised by her family.

She said: “My birthday has been lovely. I have three children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who all helped me to celebrate, and I received so many beautiful flowers and cards which I’ve put all around my flat.”

Ivy’s daughter, Elaine Barrett, who also takes care of her, added: “My mum is one in a million, and we are all just so happy to have been able to celebrate her 100th birthday.

“She’s told me that she’s going to live for another 100 years.”

Ivy used to be a member of the choir at Emmanuel Church and now enjoys singing along to Songs of Praise every Sunday.
