New police chief takes county reins

DERBYSHIRE Police's new Chief Constable has taken the reigns of the force after his predecessor retired after six years at the helm.

Mick Creedon was appointed after David Coleman announced his intention to step down.

The 49-year-old was the former Deputy Chief Constable and National Co-ordinator for Serious and Organised Crime for the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Police Authority Chairman Janet Birkin said: "He inherits a legacy of excellent performance, commitment to communities and prudent financial management.

"He brings to the force skills and values that will build upon this legacy and keep Derbyshire moving forward, improving the police service to local people."

Mr Creedon, who is married with three children, joined Derbyshire from Leicestershire Constabulary where he served as senior investigating officer for a number of years and was head of the Specialist Crime Department.
