New hope for bus services

THREATENED bus routes could be granted a lifeline after Sheffield Council's leader pledged to ask for extra funding - but she warned campaigners hoping to save the services "don't hold your breath".

Coun Jan Wilson said she would ask South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to re-examine whether it can find money to pay for the S1 and S2 services, which run in Shiregreen, and the D1, between Attercliffe, Darnall and Waverley business park.

Petitions were presented to a full meeting of Sheffield Council by users of each of the community services, which are to be axed imminently.
