New films make quite a commotion

MOVIE mad kids from all over Sheffield took top prizes in this year's Steel City Globe Awards.

The contest to create two-minute short films was staged as part of this year’s Showcomotion Festival at the Showroom Cinema.

There were separate categories for primary and secondary schools, in what was the contest’s second year.

Winners in the under-sevens category were children from Waterthorpe Nursery and Infants, with their film Snowman.

The Best Animation prize for seven to 11-year-olds went to the film The Burst Of Dale Dyke Dam by pupils from Bradfield Dungworth Primary.

Best Drama Film prize for primary pupils was won by Abbey Lane Primary for Who’s In School? while the award for Best Investigative Film for the same age group went to What Goes On In The Head’s Head? by youngsters from Deepcar St John’s C of E Juniors.

There were joint winners in the Best Secondary Film category. Graffiti by Hollie Cornish-Jenkins of High Storrs School shared the honours with Rollercoaster made by students at Meadowhead.

The awards are organised by Sheffield Children and Young People’s Service, ICT and Literary Advisors, Sheffield City Learning Centres and Showcomotion.
