Museum set to stay shut until next year

SHEFFIELD'S Kelham Island Museum is likely to remain closed until the end of next year as work goes on to restore it following the June floods.

It had been expected the museum would fully reopen for next summer.

But Minister of State for Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism Margaret Hodge was told during a visit to the museum that those hopes have been dashed after it was discovered oil and fuel had been flushed from heavy machines causing heavy contamination to buildings.

But there was at least some good news - it is expected the annual Victorian Christmas market will place as normal in December because most of the event is held outdoors in an area which escaped the worst effects of the flooding.
