Motorway targeted in crime crackdown

POLICING history was due to be made in the county today when traffic officers from South Yorkshire were joined by colleagues from neighbouring forces to "deny criminals the use of the roads".

Around 150 officers from South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Humberside were due to be involved in a series of "intelligence led" operations targeting the motorway network and South Yorkshire estates as part of the Maximum Impact on Crime campaign.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Paul Broadbent said: "This is the first time forces have worked so closely in this way across the region and maybe even in the country.

"As well as denying criminals the use of the roads and minimising cross border crime this gives us an opportunity to test our systems and processes.

"This is a real chance for us to show criminals there is no where to hide."
