Motorhomes attracting huge interest

A SOAKING summer didn't dampen the spirits of the growing army of motorhome fans as sales keep growing: the motorhome market is up by 3.7 per cent again this year.

Though it doesn't look tempting outdoors, it's the time when next season's ideas appear; it might be bigger and grander, it might be back to the future with the 21st century campervan.

Payloads have been advancing thanks to innovative design, but took a big step this year with Fiat's new Ducato. It has a 'maximum technically permitted laden mass' or Gross Vehicle Weight, of four tonnes – 500kg more than the last model.

The Motorhome Information Service says: "With more and more motorhome users wanting to travel further and further, and take more luggage and equipment with them, there has been a real call for more payload."
