More tests to find out what killed Lewis

A SECOND post mortem examination has been carried out on the body of a Sheffield pensioner who died during a disturbance at his son's newsagents.

Further tests have been carried out to help establish the exact cause of 80-year-old Lewis George Wiles' death.

It is believed his body may now be released to his family this week for funeral arrangements to be made.

Mr Wiles, of Hurlfield Road, Gleadless, died two weeks ago after smashing his head on the pavement outside his son's shop on Langsett Road, Hillsborough.

Detectives are still trying to establish exactly what happened, and arrested a 15-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man in connection with the death.

One of those quizzed – Wes Gordon, 20, from the Langsett estate – claims he cradled Mr Wiles in his arms as he lay dying.

He said he rowed with Mr Wiles' son Mick in his shop beforehand, but left as another customer continued arguing inside.

Mr Gordon said the other customer was eventually ushered out of the shop and during a confrontation, Mr Wiles stumbled backwards and hit his head on the pavement.

Mr Wiles' son, Mick, who has run his shop for around 30 years, said trouble flared after customers wanted him to open a packet of cigarettes and sell them as singles instead of the entire pack.

The two arrested over the death have been bailed by police until November pending further enquiries.
