MoD defends treatment

THE head of the armed forces defended a revised compensation settlement for a war hero injured in Afghanistan.

Sir Jock Stirrup insisted lance bombardier Ben Parkinson will receive an annual payment on top of his new 285,000 lump sum.

He commented after Ben’s mother Diane Dernie, of Doncaster, dismissed changes to the Government’s compensation scheme and said the MoD was treating troops as ‘figures on a balance sheet’.
