Man's body found in field

A PROBE is today underway after police discovered the body of a man in a South Yorkshire field.

Detectives say they are treating the death as "suspicious" and the field off Stand Hill Crescent, New Lodge, Barnsley, has been sealed off as a potential crime scene.

The victim, a male who has not yet been identified, was discovered at around 4.30pm yesterday close to a park.

A cause of death is yet to be established but officers confirmed there were no obvious injuries such as knife wounds.

It is believed police know who the man is and that he was reported missing by friends yesterday but they are waiting for positive confirmation before releasing any further details.
