Man cut free after M1 smash

A MAN was cut free from his vehicle at 7.20am today after a two-car collision on the M1 motorway near Meadowhall.

The man was freed by firefighters and treated at the scene by paramedics for a back injury but he is not believed to have been seriously hurt.

Police said the accident, which happened in lane three of the southbound carriageway between junctions 34 and 35, did not lead to the closure of the motorway but did cause congestion during the morning rush hour.

Three fire engines - from Tankersley, Elm Lane and Darnall - attended the scene.
