Joy for city play schemes as they share £1.2 million Lottery payout

PLAYING in Sheffield will be a 'lotto' more fun - thanks to a £1.2 million Lottery cash boost.

Ten Sheffield play schemes are set to benefit from a share of 1.2 million after the council secured the Lottery funding.

The cash, from the Big Lottery Fund, will be spent on improving health, promoting safe play and encouraging youngsters to make a positive contribution to society.

Sheffield Council leader Coun Jan Wilson, who received the cheque from the Lottery at a play day event, said: “The Big Lottery Award is fantastic news for children across the city.’’

The schemes which will receive the cash are Street Play, which is available across the city; 2nd Nature, held in four Sheffield woodlands; Splash at Millhouses Park; Winter Play; Arbourthorne Active; Homeless Play; Community Development Projects; Youth Playwork Initiatives; Darnall Outreach Community Playworkers and schemes at Burngreave Recreation Ground, Endcliffe Park and Ruskin Park.
