Jordan inches away from gymnastics gold

JUNIOR gymnast Jordan Ramos is celebrating success after scooping silver in a European competition.

The 12-year-old was just 0.1 points away from getting gold in the tumbling category of the European Championships in Poland – but went one better than last year's event in Bulgaria when he won a bronze.

Jordan, a pupil at Ecclesfield School, said: "I trained really hard all summer and even missed out on a family wedding to go and compete in Poland but it was all worth it in the end."

Part of the Elite Great British Squad, Jordan is one of the youngest members of the team and is already looking forward to his next challenge when he competes in the World Cup Championships in Canada in November.

He said: "This is going to be my toughest competition ever, but I'm going to continue training really hard and give it my all."

Jordan, who lives in Chapeltown, and has trained at the Wakefield Gymnastic Club since October 2005, has twice won gold in the British Championships, and also walked away with the top medal in last year's Five Regions Championships and Yorkshire Championships.

He is also a keen actor – training with the Joy Reynolds School for Acting in Sheffield - and has appeared as an acrobat on the Graham Norton Show and as a jester in a BBC drama.
