Hi Carly! This is Tony on the phone

IS this the way to say happy birthday?

It is if you're Amarillo singing superstar Tony Christie.

The South Yorkshire music legend made a phone call from his Sheffield City Hall dressing room last night to life-long fan Carly Rodgers.

She couldn't make his concert because it clashed with her 21st birthday party.

But mum and dad Gail and Kevin Rodgers - The Star's meet and greet winners - got him to phone her after his show.

"She was lost for words. It really did make her birthday," said mum Gail, aged 44, of Raseby Avenue, Waterthorpe.

"Tony didn't hesitate when I asked if he would do a huge favour and speak to her on my phone, to wish her happy birthday. He's lovely. And his concert was fantastic. His voice is still amazing."

Conisbrough born Tony, aged 64, whose hits include Happy Birthday Baby, and is recording a new album, thrilled fans on stage with a set featuring I Did What I Did For Maria, Avenues And Alleyways, Solitaire and his theme song, Is This The Way To Amarillo?

Tony's biggest fan was there - 84-year-old mum, Iris.
