Historic records relating to a South Yorkshire cycling club have been donated to Barnsley Archives and Local Studies.

Members of Barnsley Road Club have handed over handwritten minute books dating back to its foundation in the 1920s, as well as details of results, photographs, books and memorabilia.

It comes after members visited the Archives Discovery Centre in the Town Hall to launch a cycling exhibition and decided to donate the archive to ensure its long-term survival and so others can see it.

Coun Roy Miller, of Barnsley Council, said: “We are delighted with the donation of this unique archive, which adds a new distinctive element to Barnsley borough’s collections.”
