A celebration with a gardening theme is being lined up to mark World Libraries Day.

Talks and activities are taking place at Broomhill Library on Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm to mark the launch of its restoration project. The library building - Oriel House - has a garden designed by Percy Cane, an exponent of the Arts and Crafts movement.

Volunteers want to restore the garden to its original state.

Highlights of the day will include a session with garden historian Jill Sinclair, and writer Ken Thompson will chair a Question Time panel. Children’s authors Berlie Doherty and Alan Brown will lead activities for youngsters, and there will be stalls run by Friends of the Botanical Gardens and Rhyme and Reason books.

Author events are at 11am and 2pm, Gardeners’ Question Time at 2.30pm.
